4.2. Members shall be of four classes, namely:
4.2.1 Family members who shall be, subject to approval by Council:
4.2.1.1 A couple where one of the members is aged 25 or over;
4.2.1.2 Both members are of Jewish parentage (either one or both parents), and shall be educated in the precepts of the Jewish faith, or alternatively, if not of Jewish parentage, shall have been educated in the precepts of the Jewish faith according to a form of study laid down by the Rabbis and Ministers of the Union and shall have satisfied the Rabbis and Ministers of the Union of their acceptance and understanding of the precepts and principles of the Jewish faith;
4.2.1.3 Shall be concerned with the advancement of Liberal and Progressive Judaism.
4.2.1.4 Each of the family members shall be entitled to hold any Office or be eligible for election to the Council or to vote at the meetings of the Congregation.
4.2.2 Single members who shall be, subject to approval by Council:
4.2.2.1 Aged 25 or over,
4.2.2.2 Of Jewish parentage (either one or both parents), and shall be educated in the precepts of the Jewish faith, or alternatively, if not of Jewish parentage, shall have been educated in the precepts of the Jewish faith according to a form of study laid down by the Rabbis and Ministers of the Union and shall have satisfied the Rabbis and Ministers of the Union of their acceptance and understanding of the precepts and principles of the Jewish faith;
4.2.2.3 Shall be concerned with the advancement of Liberal and Progressive Judaism.
4.2.2.4 The single member shall be entitled to hold any Office or be eligible for election to the Council or to vote at the meetings of the Congregation.
4.2.3 Single parents who shall be, subject to approval by Council:
4.2.3.1 Aged 25 or over,
4.2.3.2 Of Jewish parentage (either one or both parents), and shall be educated in the precepts of the Jewish faith, or alternatively, if not of Jewish parentage, shall have been educated in the precepts of the Jewish faith according to a form of study laid down by the Rabbis and Ministers of the Union and shall have satisfied the Rabbis and Ministers of the Union of their acceptance and understanding of the precepts and principles of the Jewish faith;
4.2.3.3 Shall be concerned with the advancement of Liberal and Progressive Judaism.
4.2.3.4 A single parent or member of a family with children where the other partner in the family is not Jewish and the children are educated in the precepts of the Jewish faith and attend the congregation's Religion School at the appropriate age.
4.2.3.5 The Single Parent members shall be entitled to hold any Office or be eligible for election to the Council or to vote at the meetings of the Congregation.
4.2.4 Young adult members who shall be, subject to approval by Council:
4.2.4.1 Aged between 18 and 25;
4.2.4.2 Of Jewish parentage (either one or both parents), and shall be educated in the precepts of the Jewish faith, or alternatively, if not of Jewish parentage, shall have been educated in the precepts of the Jewish faith according to a form of study laid down by the Rabbis and Ministers of the Union and shall have satisfied the Rabbis and Ministers of the Union of their acceptance and understanding of the precepts and principles of the Jewish faith;
4.2.4.3 Shall be concerned with the advancement of Liberal and Progressive Judaism.
4.2.4.4 Young adults shall be entitled to all privileges of membership. The Young adult members shall be entitled to hold any Office or be eligible for election to the Council or to vote at the meetings of the Congregation.
4.3 It shall be the duty of the Council if at any time they shall be of the opinion that the interests of the Congregation so require, by letter to notify any member to withdraw from membership of the Congregation within a time specified in that letter, and in default of that withdrawal to submit the question of their expulsion to a Special Meeting of the Council to be held within six weeks after the date specified for their withdrawal. At such meeting the member whose expulsion is under consideration shall be allowed to offer an explanation of their conduct verbally or in writing, and if thereupon two thirds of members present shall vote for their expulsion, he/she shall cease to be a member of the Congregation, providing that the voting at any such Special Meeting shall be by secret ballot if not less than three members there shall so demand. It shall be in the power of the Council to suspend such member until such Special Meeting shall be held.
4.4 Such an expelled member shall have right of appeal to a Special General Meeting of the Congregation, which shall be called not earlier than one month and not later than two months after the expulsion of the member by the Council. If at this Special General Meeting of the Congregation two-thirds of the members present vote in favour of his\her reinstatement, the expelled member shall be duly reinstated as a member of the Congregation.
4A ASSOCIATE MEMBERS
Associate members shall be persons 18 years and upwards who have been members of the community and moved outside of the region or are members of another Jewish congregation.
Associate members shall be of Jewish parentage (either one or both parents), and shall be educated in the precepts of the Jewish faith, or alternatively, if not of Jewish parentage, shall have been educated in the precepts of the Jewish faith according to a form of study laid down by the Rabbis and Ministers of the Union and shall have satisfied the Rabbis and Ministers of the Union of their acceptance and understanding of the precepts and principles of the Jewish faith;
The Associate member:
shall not be entitled to hold any Office;
shall not be eligible for election to the Council;
shall not be able to join any of the congregation committees;
and shall not be entitled to vote at the meetings of the Congregation.
All applications for Associate Members shall be made in writing and shall be signed by the applicant and are subject to approval by Council. Council has the right to refuse, suspend or cancel Associate Membership.
4B FRIENDS OF THE COMMUNITY
Friends of the community shall be persons 18 years and upwards who are not of the Jewish faith. Friends of the community shall not be considered as members of the community.
The 'Friend of the Community':
shall not be entitled to hold any Office;
shall not be eligible for election to the Council;
shall be able to join any of the congregation committees except those
with influence over religious affairs;
and shall not be entitled to vote at the meetings of the Congregation.
A person of the Jewish faith will not be able to join the 'Friends of the Community'.
All applications for Friends of the Community shall be made in writing and
shall be signed by the applicant and are subject to approval by Council.
