1. NAME
The Congregation shall be called 'The Bristol & West Progressive Jewish
Congregation' and in these Rules shall be referred to as 'the Congregation'
2. MANAGEMENT
The Congregation its property and affairs shall be under the management and
control of a governing body which shall be called 'the Council'.
3. OBJECTS
The objects of the Congregation shall be:-
3.1 The advancement of Liberal and Progressive Judaism and for such purpose to become the local section of the Union of Liberal and Progressive Synagogues (herein referred to as 'the Union').
3.2 With the advice and guidance of the Rabbis and Ministers of the Union to provide, arrange and conduct religious services for the members of the Congregation in such forms and manner as shall from time to time be determined by the Council.
3.3 With the advice and guidance of the Rabbis and Ministers of the Union to provide, arrange and conduct, in conformity with religious services, classes and services for children.
3.4 In conjunction with the Union to arrange for the solemnisation of marriages and burial (or cremation) of members of the Congregation.
3.5 To acquire, provide, maintain and carry on a place of worship.
3.6 To do all such other acts and
things as shall from time to time be conducive to the aforesaid objects, and
in particular, but not so as in any way to limit the generality of the foregoing
part of this clause, to raise, borrow and secure the payment of any sum or sums
of money, and to purchase, take on lease or agreement, and hire any land or
interest therein, or any property of any kind and to sell, mortgage, charge,
grant leases or agreements in respect of and in any other manner deal with or
turn to account any land or interest therein or any other property of any kind
belong to the Congregation.
